The Skyanalog P-1G (Green) features the advanced Yan System and the same open design as its highly regarded predecessor, the P-1. The motor is derived from the P-2, with its square iron spool, Boron cantilever, and Elliptical Fineline stylus, made in Japan. The P-1 Green is the ultimate high-end cartridge in its price range.
The P-series provides rich information playback with dynamic performance, offering clarity and transparency for music lovers, all at an affordable price.
Key technical features include:
- Diamond with elliptical (Fineline) cut, 5 µm radius
- Boron cantilever: low mass, high rigidity
- Iron plate and cross-wound coils
- Aluminum housing
- Solid plastic needle protection
New damping system "Yan" features:
- Minimal information loss and distortion
- Exceptional dynamic range and lifelike soundstage
- Improved transient response and clarity
- Analytical yet warm acoustics
- Average tracking force: 1.1-1.4 grams
Technical note – system matching and headshell mass
During practical tests with Skyanalog cartridges on Technics SL-1200MK2, Technics SL-1200MK4, Technics SL-1200GR2 and Technics SL-1200G systems, a consistent mechanical behaviour has been observed in the low-frequency reproduction when using standard headshell configurations.
This behaviour is reproducible across multiple turntables and multiple samples of the cartridge.
In all cases, a clear improvement was achieved by increasing the total effective mass of the tonearm system, resulting in a shift of the system resonance into an optimal operating range.
This can be achieved through a combination of headshell mass and the use of an auxiliary weight mounted at the rear of the tonearm.
Practical configurations (Technics S-arm systems) (blue text are direct links)
Auxiliary weight 16 grams Technics Auxiliary Weight 16g
(Technics part references: TKKH51441 / TPAKK61)
→ recommended headshell mass: 11–14 grams
→ example: Audio-Technica AT-LH13H
Auxiliary weight 26 grams Technics Auxiliary Weight 26g
(Technics part reference: TPAKK62)
→ recommended headshell mass: approx. 17 grams
→ example: Nagaoka HS-10
The effective headshell mass is therefore not a fixed value, but depends on the total system configuration including the selected auxiliary weight.
Technical explanation
The most likely explanation is a mismatch between tonearm effective mass and the dynamic properties (compliance) of the cartridge, resulting in a system resonance that is slightly too high in the standard configuration.
By increasing the total effective mass, the resonance frequency is shifted into an optimal range (approximately 8–12 Hz). This results in stable tracking and a tighter, more controlled low-frequency response.
Conclusion
For Technics S-arm systems, correct adjustment of total effective mass — using headshell mass and/or an auxiliary weight — is essential for optimal performance of Skyanalog cartridges and maximum playback stability.
Stylus care
Use only a dry brush to clean the stylus. The use of cleaning fluids is not recommended, as it may damage the cantilever or suspension. Handle the stylus with care for optimal performance.
Break-in period
The cartridge requires an approximate break-in period of 30 hours at an average temperature of around 23°C. The packaging includes mounting screws and an Allen key for easy installation.
