TEAC A-7300RX 2-Track Master Recorder
The Teac A-7300RX tape deck is designed for the serious professional or demanding audio enthusiast who not only wants to record live musical performances, but also aims to create high-quality recordings from a variety of audio sources such as turntables, network players, CD players, and other line-level equipment.
It is one of the first tape decks in the world to feature the dbx Type-I noise reduction system, enabling an exceptional dynamic range exceeding 100 dB while minimizing tape hiss. This makes it ideally suited for capturing both live and studio-quality sound with outstanding fidelity.
Thanks to the combination of the dbx system, built-in mixing capabilities, versatile input options (including multiple microphone and line inputs), and precision engineering, this recorder stands as a testament to TEAC’s core philosophy: delivering reliable, high-end recording instruments that meet the exacting demands of musicians, audiophiles, and professionals around the world.
Mechanics and Tape Transport:
To ensure very stable and precise tape movement, high-quality mechanical components are used:
-
A precision die-cast aluminum chassis guarantees durability and dimensional stability.
-
Dynamically balanced impedance rollers reduce flutter and uneven tape travel.
-
An oil-damped tension arm ensures constant tension, smooth starts, and prevents audio skipping.
-
Short distances between the heads and capstan minimize modulation distortion.
-
The tape is guided with constant angle and tension for accurate playback.
-
The DC servo motor operates without mechanical contact, making it silent, low-maintenance, and electronically controlled for constant speed.
-
The entire mechanism is driven by a logic-based IC circuit (no relays or mechanical switches), ensuring reliability and smooth, direct operation – including instant playback from fast-forward or recording during playback.
Sound Quality and Recording Functionality:
The recorder offers extensive recording capabilities:
-
Four microphone inputs (two per channel), allowing stereo mix recordings with multiple microphones.
-
Two line inputs per channel, for mixing multiple line-level sources.
-
Microphone and line inputs can also be mixed simultaneously.
-
The microphone amplifier features a high 45V supply, direct-coupled PNP/NPN transistor design, and a wide dynamic range.
-
Each channel includes a 20 dB microphone attenuator to prevent clipping from loud signals.
-
The record master volume allows for simultaneous adjustment of all input levels.
-
A memory marker on the input volume knob enables quick return to a preset position.
Monitoring, Editing, and Operation:
-
Equipped with a precise peak level meter (-40 dB to +5 dB) with a 10 ms response time to capture fast transients.
-
Cue and edit functions allow you to manually locate track beginnings or exact edit points.
-
A hinged/openable head housing facilitates editing and maintenance.
-
Pitch control allows tape speed adjustment within ±5%.
-
The linear counter displays elapsed time in minutes and seconds, accurate to within ±1.5%.
-
Real-time pause, memory auto-stop, and timer-controlled recording/playback (with optional timer) are also available.
Additional Features:
-
A 4-track playback head for compatibility with standard stereo recordings.
-
dbx-encoded output and decode/copy function for noise-free dubbing.
-
MPX filter to suppress pilot tones during FM radio recordings.
-
A 3-position tape selector, with independent settings for bias and equalization.
-
Output volume with click-stop at reference level for accurate alignment with external equipment.
A full-function remote control RC-170 was available as an optional accessory.
